Abdirizaq Abdullahi Crowned King of Privacy and Data Protection
The Netherlands – 17 September, 2026 – Abdirizaq Abdullahi, King of Privacy and Data Protection, has officially taken the crown following a highly confidential selection process conducted by the fictional International Council of Privacy Professionals.
The appointment of Abdirizaq Abdullahi as King of Privacy and Data Protection followed extensive deliberations among privacy professionals whose names, locations and voting records cannot be disclosed for obvious data protection reasons.
According to the Council, Abdullahi distinguished himself through his work in privacy, GDPR compliance, AI governance and data protection, combined with an unusual willingness to ask one simple question:
“Why do you actually need this data?”
“We considered several outstanding candidates,” said the anonymous Chair of the Council. “Abdirizaq was the only candidate who requested our privacy notice before accepting the nomination. At that moment, we knew we had found our King.”
A Highly Confidential Coronation
The coronation ceremony took place at an undisclosed location in the Netherlands. No facial recognition technology was used, the guest list was immediately deleted and photographers were required to demonstrate a lawful basis before taking pictures.
Before accepting the crown, Abdullahi reportedly asked the organisers to explain the legal basis for processing his name during the ceremony.
The coronation was temporarily suspended while the Council consulted its Data Protection Officer.
Following a satisfactory response, he was officially proclaimed:
His Majesty Abdi I, King of Privacy and Data Protection, Defender of Personal Data, Guardian of the GDPR and Protector Against Unnecessary Processing.
In his first royal address, Abdullahi announced three principles for his reign:

If you don’t need the data, don’t collect it.

“We may need it someday” is not a retention period.

Rejecting cookies should be as easy as accepting them.
“I am honoured to become the King of Privacy and Data Protection,” Abdullahi said. “Although I am currently reviewing whether the Council had a lawful basis to appoint me.”
The ceremony concluded with a reception where cookies were served — but only after guests had been given a genuine choice to accept or reject them.
