Virtual cultural exchange program connects fifth-graders from the U.S. and Costa Rica

ATLANTA, GA – All For One Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the lives of children around the world by improving social conditions, educational opportunities, and healthcare availability, announced an ongoing partnership with Midway Elementary School in Alpharetta, Georgia to launch, Passport Around the World, a series of service-learning initiatives aimed to foster cross-cultural learning and develop relationships with children from other cultures.

“This unique enrichment opportunity promotes children at a young age to understand different perspectives around the world, said Newton Myvett, President, All for One Foundation. “The fifth-graders at Midway Elementary were so excited about this initiative that they teamed up to formalize the name, Passport Around the World,” said Myvett proudly.

On Friday, November 13, the All For One Foundation kicked-off the first of many e-learning opportunities via Teams Connect with CEPIA, a nationally accredited non-profit organization in Costa Rica that improves the quality of life for children, teenagers, and their families.

“What an exciting adventure,” said Greg Walkup, Personalized Learning Coach at Midway Elementary. “We are very humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve and partner alongside the All For One Foundation,” continued Walkup. “Being able to engage, contribute, and develop relationships across boundaries and cultures is a component of the Forsyth County Schools’ Learner Profile and something we believe in strongly in our district and at Midway Elementary, continued Walkup.

The highly interactive program began with a geography exchange where the children from Costa Rica shared their country’s flag, National flower, National bird, and other Costa Rican wildlife. The fifth-grade students from Midway Elementary were curious to learn more about the election process in Costa Rica, their leader, and knowledge of American football.

“We are excited to start a beautiful educational partnership and intercultural project with the All for One Foundation, allowing the underprivileged children of our coastal area of Costa Rica to get to know children from another culture, exchange ideas, and to practice communicating in English,” said Laetitia Deweer, Vice President and Founder of CEPIA.

As a result of this heartwarming virtual field trip, the inspired fifth-graders from Midway Elementary plan to launch a school-wide supply drive for their new friends in Costa Rica.

The next Passport Around the World e-learning exchange will take students to the beautiful country of Belize. Date to be announced soon. Follow the All for One Foundation on Instagram and Facebook for details.

ABOUT MIDWAY ELEMENTARY

Excellence is a 50-year tradition at Midway. Established in the early sixties as a community school in a sleepy farming area between Alpharetta and Cumming; today Midway thrives as a school with a diverse and talented population of learners that welcomes all families to a fast-growing suburb of a southern metropolis.

Much of the reason for Midway’s success comes from our philosophy that ALL students can be strong in Mind, Body, and Spirit. This “One Midway” creed influences all the work they do and is evident in their efforts to include all families in the life of this great school.

Named a Georgia School of Excellence, Midway has received several Title I and State of Georgia awards for academic achievement and gains, and was recognized as a Family Friendly school by the Georgia State Superintendent of Schools.
