From his early days playing soccer, Ashwell developed a strong competitive streak and a noted worth ethic – both attributes that he still has in spades today. By his senior year in highschool, Ashwell developed a passion for basketball and soon found himself in demand at various prestigious schools around the United States.
Due to his athletic build and status as an athlete, Ashwell found himself modeling for various clients before Nike, the world’s most iconic sports brand, took an interest in him. He appeared in an Air Jordan commercial in his early twenties, which brought him to the attention of several brands across the country. Since then, he has also worked for brands such as Forever 21, PacSun, and the famous Ron Herman store in Los Angeles. His career is built on two things he learned in basketball play – hustle, and grind. Ashwell values these two things above all else, and they have served as the bedrock of his life and career.
The hustle and grind that has been the fabric of Boyd’s basketball success, have been transitioned into his modeling career. Ashwell believes that success is dependent on how good a person wants to be, not how good a person already is. His motto, as he put it on an episode of The Other 98 Percent Podcast is to “always be better than expected” – advice that rings true for everyone, no matter what the field.
